Yelapa, Jalisco, Mexico
Yelapa, a small fishing village, lies in a cove where the mountains of the Cabo Corrientes and the waters of the El Tuito river meet the sea on the the southern shore of the Bay of Banderas. This bay, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, is its largest and the home to practically every species of marine life except sharks. The village of Yelapa is about a 45 minute boat ride southwest of Puerto Vallarta.
Accessible only by boat, Yelapa has no roads or cars within the village. Charming paths of concrete, cobble and sand wind throughout the village and along the river providing passage for people, horses and mules.
The land of the Cabo Corrientes is densely forested from the sea to the mountains with a wide range of tropical flowering and fruiting plants, trees and herbs — many of these plants are used by local healers. Exotic wildlife and marine life are abundant; it’s a nature lovers delight!
It is rare to find a place of such age and tradition so accessible to outsiders; in Yelapa the past and present merge. Come and experience Mexico with us this May.
